Intimate Thoughts From:

T’want me-t’was the Lord. I always told Him. ‘I trust you. I don’t know where to go or what to do, but I expect you to lead me, and He always did.

Harriett Tubman 1820-1931 American Abolitionist Many Strong and Beautiful Voices by Eli Quinn (Running Press, 1997 God continually demonstrates His unconditional love for us. He’s always teaching me about having sole reliance upon Him. Let me share how I further learned that lesson.

There it was that visibly adoring glance, the skip and then the double skip and hop with the combination bounce in the little girl’s steps. This was so apparent to me; so noticeable. I knew what she was doing and where she was going. She was on a destination with her daddy. Someone she adored, trusted, received positive validation from. You wonder how I discerned that? It was they gentle way she gripped his hands and extended fingers.  God always seems to have teaching moments for me during my lunch time walks.  His presence is apparent, the birds are fluttering and chirping, the air is moving and the strangers are smiling as I round the corners, cut across the campus lawns and appreciate the budding tree lined walkways. The sweet and welcoming breeze is an invited companion that rifts across my face and rests securely in my braids. It’s His presence and a soulful present from God as marvel at nature and freely flex my stiff limbs. Today, the fragrant magnolia tree danced over my head, “Lord here’s high 5 to you!” My lunch strolls are liberating, I can breathe again and focus on something other than work tasks. God would have it that the expressed joy that was apparent in this little girl was a love letter from the Lord to slow down, enjoy His company and more importantly rely upon Him! I am sure He desired that I’d witness this child as a model of what “RELIANCE” looks like.

I’d like to entreat you to consider carving out sacred time to commune with Him- sharing and possibly hearing from our Heavenly Father, it can be your uninterrupted time. Time to reflect, absorb, lament and pray! Daily I’m battling that self reliance spirit-  kicking the superwoman persona to the curb and calling “Daddy!” He never let’s me sort out things on my own.  He’s a prayer away! I petition Him and receive another measure of grace and mercy. The peace that passes all understanding speaks to my heart and the Lord quickens my spirit with renewed faith,  His glory, takes my hand, my breathing slows, my comfort level builds, my heart is assured and before long my soul’s reconnected to our divine anchor.  I realize I am the little girl smiling, skipping, bouncing and glancing up in great appreciation that my divine daddy cares for me.

Friends if we allow God to really be our Heavenly Father He’ll lead us in paths of untold blessings for our good. Simply reach up in expectancy. Let your spirit joyfully cry out saying, “Wait up for me Daddy, wait for me!”
